Precious metals use troy ounces, not standard (avoirdupois) ounces. One troy ounce equals 31.1035 grams — about 10% heavier than a regular ounce. This is the global standard for pricing gold, silver, platinum, and palladium.

1 troy oz = 31.1035 g = 20 dwt. A 1 kg bar contains 32.15 troy ounces. In Indian and Asian markets, gold is often measured in tolas (1 tola ≈ 0.375 oz t) or taels (1 tael ≈ 1.215 oz t in Hong Kong).
